Casting for New Autism Documentary Series
Northern Pictures, a company who has produced many award-winning television documentaries, is making a new series in the US about dating and relationships featuring people on the autism spectrum.
They are looking for single people, living in the United States, who are on the autism spectrum and are interested in dating. You may have no history of dating, or you might be an experienced dater, feel free to get in touch and say hello.
They are also looking for couples, or people who have just started seeing each other, even if you’re not yet official! Either one or both of you might be autistic.
There are many misconceptions out there about autism, one of them being that people aren’t interested in finding love. Northern Pictures want to show that this isn’t true, and to help people understand more about neurodiversity. They aim to make an honest, sensitive and insightful documentary series that will educate the audience about ASD, breaking down some of the myths, misconceptions and stereotypical views, and celebrating difference. It’s really important to tell the very diverse stories of real people, in their own voices.
Northern Pictures are in no way making a reality TV show, and their documentaries are always made with the utmost sensitivity and respect.
If you or someone you know might be interested in speaking with the production team, please send an email with a brief description of yourself, where you live and a photo to production@northernpictures.com.au.
Northern Pictures have recently made two documentary series in Australia featuring people on the autism spectrum, one called ‘Employable Me’, and the other ‘Love On The Spectrum’. Employable Me told the stories of people with neurodiverse conditions looking for work and was all about showing the skills and talents people can bring to a workplace. It started a national conversation in Australia and has really helped employers see beyond a label and resulted in employment for countless people. The series won numerous awards both in Australia and internationally, including the United Nations medal at the New York Festivals.
‘Love On The Spectrum’ was a big success with audiences and critics, and most importantly, within the autistic community. Their aim was for it to send a positive message, that people on the spectrum can and do find love. Some people can find navigating the dating world difficult, and the series helped them by providing support, social and dating skills coaching for those who felt they needed it, and by introducing them to potential matches. ‘Love On The Spectrum’ also told stories of couples, to inspire others out there and show people in happy, healthy relationships.
